Faith Based Coalition for Health

The Gomer Project

A Faith Based Coalition for Health – the Gomer Project is funded by USAID through World Learning and was launched in October 2011. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to national activities to scale up HIV prevention measures, particularly among Most- at-Risk populations. The objective of the project is to target 460 sex workers in Kingston over 3 years in which 92 will choose to change their lives. They will be introduced to skills training, remedial adult education and discipleship with pastors. They will also undergo Behavioural Change Communication sessions and voluntary counselling and testing for STIs and HIV/AIDS. The project will also target 60 out- of- school youth( age group 12-29) from 16 inner city housing schemes in Trench Town to reduce the vulnerability of at- risk behaviour and other developmental challenges. 100 pastors and church members will be trained to break the barrier of stigma and discrimination in the church.
